The Vick’s Plant (Plectranthus tomentosa)

IMG_2724One of our favorite plants, the Vick’s plant.  We grow ours indoors and it is truly wonderful.  But, it can be grown outside in USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 9a too.

The soft leaves can be rubbed to release the calming methanol aroma and can be placed in a pot of boiling water to steam.  Place a towel over your head and breath.  This helps to relieve sinus pressure.  It can also be made with coconut oil for a rub.

The Vick’s plant like well-drained soil.  Do not over water this little plant.  But, wait until the dirt has dried before your next water.  What we really love about this plant is that you can make cuttings from it.  Cut, place in a glass of water in a sunny window and wait for roots.  You can easily multiply the Vick’s plant and share it with friends & family.

If you are feeling stuffy this winter or get those allergies in the Spring. Get yourself a Vick’s plant and share some too!
